Ennerdale

This time in My Bird Watch I visit Ennerdale which is within the Lake District National Park in Cumbria. Here I look at the birds of freshwater lakes, upland heathland and forest.

Today's Visit

Today the weather was wet and misty up here in Ennerdale but that doesn't mean all the wildlife goes to sleep and I'm left with no birds to show you. Despite the slightly damp atmosphere things was quite lively.

I watched the Common Sandpiper signal with his wings, flashing his white armpits at passing birds. Whether this is a mating display or signaling to other males to keep away I don't know but it was interesting to watch.

Other birds I observed while here were:

Above: Greylag Geese flying over head.

Above: Stonechats on the heather.
