A Look at the Smooth Newt


The Smooth Newt is Britain's most common and widespread newt, which is quite at home in garden ponds and small ponds in the countryside. These newts were given to me by someone who no longer wanted their pond and wanted a home for them. I photographed them and released them in my pond which I hope they will be happy in.

 

Above: A lovely male in full breeding colours, notice his orange belly, bright yellow sides with big dark black spots, a continuous wavy crest down his back and tail.
